Since its founding, the IfG has continued to develop salt mechanics in numerous research projects covering topics such as the following:
- Development and validation of material models for rock salt (Verbundprojekt I, Verbundprojekt II, Verbundprojekt III, WEIMOS) and crushed salt (KOMPASS I, KOMPASS II, GESAV I, SAVER)
- Closure structures made of clay/bentonite (SANDWICH-VP, SANDWICH-HP, SANDWICH II) and MgO-concrete (MgO-Seal, MgO-S3, MgO-C3, DeSpriBi)
- Safety analyses for final repositories (VSG, KOSINA, MeMoDeck)
- Energy storage in caverns (HYPOS, GeomInt, SAMUH, ESsCO2)
