The Institut für Gebirgsmechanik (IfG) is an engineering service provider with a specialisation in addressing rock mechanics challenges within the mining sector.
Our clients operate across traditional potash and rock salt mining, storage and solution mining, as well as projects involving underground utilisation, disposal and repositories. Leveraging extensive expertise and site-specific knowledge—often built up over decades—we deliver practical, client-focused solutions, even for complex challenges. To prepare approval-ready rock mechanics analyses and expert recommendations, we integrate hands-on investigation methods, such as underground in situ measurements and material testing in our rock mechanics laboratory, with advanced numerical modelling for condition assessment and forecasting.
In addition, we engage in collaboration with national and international partners on a wide range of research and development projects, continuously strengthening and advancing our engineering capabilities.
