For several years, the IfG has been studying the Maceió cavern field in Brazil, where, amongst other things, significant subsidence and a sinkhole have occurred. A detailed analysis of the geomechanical mechanisms and processes has now been published in two articles in the specialist journal Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering:
